Texture Tape 026:

AurA

Interview by

The first tape of the year is served up by Sydney-based producer aurA, whose sub-aquatic broken beat cuts wobble and fizz under the weight of the water above them.

What were your ideas or plans going into the mix?

To find and explore parallels between contemporary dance music and older releases spanning the last three decades.

What have been your favourite recent releases and events?

Thereʼs been a string of Aussie releases during the Australian bushfire crisis courtesy of Cop Envy, Logic1000, Mall grab, DJ Plead, Lou Karsh and my personal favourite Ten Brains. Definitely worth checking out! All incredible eps.
I went to a ‘heavenlyʼ warehouse party in Sydney before Xmas that blew my fucking mind.

What’s the music scene like where you’re from?

Itʼs pretty amazing. Sydney has a super tight music community I feel. Lots of wonderful people and collectives doing amazing events and supporting each other. Think warehouse parties. RA just put out a pretty incredible documentary on Sydney as part of there RA Scenes series.

Is there a show you wish you could go back in time and experience?

Magnetic man, parklife, Brisbane 2011. My electronic music obsession started there.

How do you organise your music?

To be honest it could be a lot more organised. I actually need to sort my shit out.

A track you’ve always wanted to play out but never had the chance?

Species Of Fish – Bfg9000 vs. Barons Of Hell

Your dancefloor saver?

Parola (Rework) by Donato Dozzy & Anna C

Your favourite club?

Berghain. Cliche I know.

The soundtrack to your funeral?

RHCP – Soul to Squeeze

And on a lighter note, the tune you’ll still be listening to in 50 years?

Coki – Lucifer
